Winchester Hockey Club Oracle Edition 59

U18 Girls

vs Alton - 0-2

The first half saw the teams evenly matched but with few shots on goal. They had the only short corner of the first half but unfortunately couldn’t score and it was 0-0 at half time.

Alton started the second half quicker and with a good press leading to a goal after 15 mins, followed by another in the last five minutes of the game. Winchester defended the short corners well and Chloe made some excellent saves. Despite some good runs of attacking play and opportunities on goal, the girls couldn’t capitalise on these.

U16 Girls

vs Old Georgians - 2-1

Scorers: Bea, Amelia

The U16 girls hosted Old Georgians on Sunday. The game started off well with a straight strike from Bea during a short corner in the first five minutes. Winchester carried on with some great play but so did their opponents and they managed to equalise in the 21st minute.

The second half was as exciting as the first, with great hockey from both sides and in the 46th minute Winchester managed to take the lead when Amelia scored with a volley on the back post during another short corner.

Both teams continued to play hard right until the end and it finished with a much-needed win for the Winchester girls.

Player of the match: Tilly

U14 Boys

vs Petersfield - 7-0

Scorers: James (4), Will R, Will V, Benno

Winchester were home to Petersfield for a South Central league match and were fielding a number of new players. Any unfamiliarity or nerves from the new players certainly didn't show and Winchester started well with great flowing passing and movement off the ball. This put Petersfield under pressure and led to a breakthrough after only ten minutes. The U14 boys didn't take their foot off the accelerator and by half time were four goals up.

The second half was the same again with the attackers working hard to make themselves available and the midfield rewarding the hard work. Will V and Benno dominated midfield with Will H mopping up anything that came through. This spine were ably supported by their teammates on the flanks. There was limited work for the Winchester goalie but Bertie dealt with it comfortably. The final score of 7-0 was well deserved for a real team performance.
