Womens 1st XI vs Chichester 1

Womens 1st XI vs Chichester 1

This week Winchester Ladies 1st XI travelled to Chichester to attempt to maintain their unbeaten run.

With only one sub to Chichester’s 14 deep squad and their coach Jamie supporting the Men’s 1st XI, the Winchester ladies prepared themselves for a hot 70 minutes of hard graft.

Chichester put in a really strong first quarter with some well drilled connective play from their midfield and forwards, and Winchester struggled to have an answer. By the end of the first quarter the score stood at 2-0 to Chichester, and Winchester heads were low.

A good team talk from captain Charlotte Gale and midfielder Clare Griffiths lifted spirits, and Winchester dug back in and held quarter two. Quarter three saw Winchester take the fight to Chichester and despite controlling play and getting lots of shots on goal, the Chichester goalkeeper made some outstanding saves to stop Winchester converting.

The final quarter saw Chichester come out strong, and they were able to score a final goal leaving the scoreline at 3-0, with Winchester not quite able to find their groove today.

The ladies shouldn't be too disappointed, as they still sit top of the table and are guaranteed promotion, but they have made the league win a little more difficult for themselves as Havant creep closer with only 1 point between them and a game in hand.

Saturday 21st they play South Berkshire at Kings School at 12:30pm.
